I can remember walking around MWC in barcelona this year and quietly smiling
when I saw a Chinese device using AndAppStore as it's market, so yes they're
out there and using alternatives.

The thing is to OEMs & carriers the Google experience is a selling point to
users purely through consumer association (oh, I use Google search at home and
it's good, this 'phone is Google branded and so must have some good parts).
Hence why many of the tier 1 western OEMS & carriers have gone through the
process of getting it.

It's all about the target market. To Chinese consumers branding isn't king,
whereas as shown by Apple, a company can sell a lot of devices just because has
a good brand name.
