Thanks. I cleared the phone number in the merchant account. This would
be the first time I ever got a support call. None of the apps are
listed with a phone number.

On the order confirmation email sent out after each app purchase,
there's a link that says "Problems with this order? Contact [Company
Name]". Following that link takes the customer to a page on their
Google Checkout account for the order, and there they'll find a
section which says "Questions about your order? Call [Company Name]
555-123-4567".
That phone number comes from your own Google Checkout account. Go to
https://checkout.google.com/sell/settings?section=Profile (log in
using your merchant account) and about halfway down the form you'll
find "Public business information (shown to buyers)
This information will help address inquiries from your buyers." It's
the phone number I've entered there which gets shown to customers.
And, that phone number field is marked "(optional)".
If you don't want phone calls, don't enter a number there. Myself,
I've put in the number of a low-cost voicemail-to-email service I've
used for years. GVoice would probably work just as well, if you're
Stateside. Over the last year of selling apps, I've had a handful of
customer messages on that line, which I'm just as happy to field as I
am any other support email.
The number on your Developer Console > Profile page, AFAIK, is never
given out to anyone. I just looked there, and it turns out I'd put my
home number in (!). Nobody Android-related has ever called me at home.
But I'd recommend that you DO put a real number there, in case Google
DOES want to ring you someday. :^)

They said it was in the email receipt they got from the market. Thanks
for the link. I posted the "bug" and will see if I hear anything back
on. There is no button that lets you specify no phone number. I was
always able to leave it blank before. I don't think many small
developers want 3 AM calls. Either that or Google is deciding only big
companies should be doing Android software.

When I asked how they got the number they said it came with the email.
Did they clarify what that means? It "came with the email"? What email? The
one on the Market?
I have a number posted in my account too but it does not show up in the
market though the website and email I have posted do. I vaguely remember
this being an option to post the number in the Market which you could check.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was broken with the additions of the LVL
stuff to that same page.
You can report the issue here, siting a bug with the website. Save that
link. Learn it. Love it.
