I'm sorry, Craig, but this is offensive. And worse, it's wrong. Everyone on this list has a GMail account; Google Groups requires it. Not everyone has a choice as to how they access all of their email; business email is one obvious example. Try telling your boss that you're going to use your GMail account instead of the company email. And not everyone considers storing all of your email in the cloud to be wise; in general I trust Google, but I also prefer to have offline access to my email, and, well, I like it to be 100% under my control. I use secure IMAP with GMail and have another account (on a domain that I control) that I also access with my offline client. I used K-9 mail for a while on my phone, which solves a lot of the OP's problems, but there are lists of alternate clients to choose from. [1][2] So in short, the answer to "Fix my email program!!" should be "install a different one." To be fair I stopped using my phone to get email, since I prefer to use my laptop, though K-9 was quite usable. And it allowed multi-select, though IIRC it only showed up as an option if you did a long-click on a message. After you did, though, a bunch of check boxes appeared and allowed you to single click each email you wanted to delete or move to folder. Good UI design is not impossible on a small screen. It just takes creativity. And a willingness to believe it's possible. The annoying thing is when carriers add terrible email programs (or other apps) to the phones that you can't disable. While I understand why carriers don't want average users to be able to root (though I don't agree with their reasoning), I think it's unforgivable that they ship ANY apps in a protected folder.
