My previous 3 phones (including this pos Android I am writing from right
now) could view at least 10 on a screen and select all is very useful for
marking all read as well as managing.

There are four laptops, two desktops and three servers in my house. All of
these are capable of checking email. I also think this ability to "select
all" would be a nice feature. Just because it would be convienient. It was
always a feature on my windows mobile phones (curtosey of an independent
developer whose inbox extender plugin was wildly popular), so naturally I'd
like to see it on my spiffy new android. In fact, it probably is a feature
on one of the market email clients. Ill have to look into that when I get a
chance, but the OP may want to do a market search himself and see what sort
of options turn up. I think k-9 mail is a good candidate as it would be
easyiest to add to if not default since it's open source.

Google's own gmail apps comes with checkmarks on the side. My screen still
displays 9 emails.

Tell me about it. Checking email on your phone is so 2008. :-) But I do
know there are a few ISP providers around here that only offer pop with some
of their plans. Although we could debate the antiquity of the protocol, if
that is what someone has, its what they have. And really, changing from pop
to imap doesn't have much to do with being able to "select all".

For what it is worth, at least with gmail, one of the reasons select all is
not an option I think is due to the fact that it dynamically continues to
load more messages as the page is scrolling down.
But there is probably a more pertinent reason since it always seem to be
lacking in default mail apps. Maybe because "nobody wants that feature"
really is the reason... but that is not my opinion.
