> If that's your attitude towards your customers...

You miss the point. The app is free. People who use a free app aren't
customers, they are users of a free program. As such, they have no special
privilege to continue using the app.

Once a user is banned, the only way they can use the app again is to do a
hard reset on their device or get a new one. They are effectively shut out.
In my opinion, I have the right to stop someone who is abusing the
reputation of the program from continues use. The ones who get banned have
already done their best to disparage the program so banning them won't make
it worse, it will just teach them that there is a cost to such behavior.
Banning them also provides a certain satisfaction to me. Everyone of the
people banned have gone out of their way to be miserable humans despite my
repeated attempts to satisfy them in a polite and dignified manner. They
also have continued to use the program despite their venomous comments and
remarks.

As for paying customers, I haven't had to cross that bridge yet but if I
come across a paying customer who's similarly abusive, I'll first give them
a refund, then I'll ban them.

This facility also allows me to stop a version or range of versions of the
app from operating in order to force users to update the app. It's proved
to be an exceptionally valuable tool in that regard.
