  sure, send them along, but my original question remains -- should i
expect numerous first-time boot warnings regarding missing files and
read-write errors and so on?  i can take a snapshot of the boot output
and post it if anyone's interested.

  as i said before, the system eventually does boot but it's not a
pretty sight on its way up.
