I'd definitely like to have a look how the plugin looks like when the exception problem is solved. Then I can see if it makes sense to merge any code from my plugin. The main reason why I did not publish it yet that we use a custom CSV format that is probably not suitable for other projects (we include e.g. the initials of the observer so we can track it). We also don't have X,Y coordinates of the points but we use names of waypoints and look them up in another vector layer.
