I can understand that its tricky (I've been involved in a similar thing
in the past), but you can't let your community stagnate or once you're
finally ready to engage with them they'll all be gone.

Why are you on Github if not for this? With regard to accepting patches
are you worried about losing control of the licensing (if you wanted to
do an "enterprise version")?

Good, I hope you can figure out what works for you with regard for
getting patches into APE because I, for one, would be interested in
contributing more in the future.

Why did you feel the need to start from scratch? APE isn't perfect (the
crazy recursive macros used to do callbacks come to mind) but it seems
relatively solid and readable (at least the server, the JSF doesn't make
any sense to me). It also seems to perform very well.
