Dear colleagues: As you know, months ago, version 0.3 of apertium-eu-en, which translates from Basque to English, was put together by Jim O’Regan, with funding from the European Association for Machine Translation (EAMT).
As part of the final report, we promised an evaluation, and here is where your help is needed. Those of you with a good command of English and no command whatsoever of Basque could help us with the evaluation and we hope you will do. The task is a hole-filling task or Cloze test. You’ll be given 32 correct English sentences where a couple of words have been crossed out. For some of them you will get hints such as (a) the Basque equivalent (that won’t help a lot, we know) and (b) the translation to English using apertium-eu-es (if this helps a lot, it is because machine translation is useful), or (c) both. You will have to guess the words and send the corrected sentences back. It should not take you more than perhaps 32 minutes, and the more participants we get, the better the evaluation. We expect to hear from volunteers before May 15, 23:59 GMT. Sentences will be sent on May 17, and results are expected by May 21, 23:59 GMT. Please write to me (Mikel L. Forcada) if you would like to participate. Thanks a million! Mikel L. Forcada -- Mikel L.
