The obvious problem with this is the fixing of fictional due dates. I
also do this sort of thing, but only because the app (and others like
it) basically force it. I'd rather have due dates reserved for tasks
that actually have real due dates, so as to not have to always think
about which of the "due" tasks actually need to be done...

You could argue for these fictional due dates as a useful discipline
in planning when the work will actually be done, though. But for me,
many important tasks should be done as soon as possible, with no
particular penalty for delay beyond a specific date.

I'd prefer an automatic precedence based list for next actions, but
(apart from Omnifocus, which is expensive and rumoured to be a little
awkward to use) not found an app with that functionality.
