Please please please don't switch to icons, I can't think of anything that would be more confusing. Most of my lists are for tasks involving various people, not sure what icon I would use for "Chris" which would clearly distinguish it from "James". At least the coloured dots match their corresponding calendars in iCal. Words are the easiest though.
