Hello Bruce, We have reused the posts that you have described, that were pressure treated, in large numbers in both our deer fencing and in our trellis systems. They were driven both times and we have had very good success and never questioned our decision to reuse a post. We have found that driving posts when the ground is dry and hard creates much more issues than the reuse of a post.
Hope this helps. Best, Kurt Kurt W. Alstede General Manager, Alstede Farms, LLC P.O. Snice then we have had to replace about a third of them. The used posts started to fail after about 4 years in the ground. They did not all fail at once, but we noticed them while pruning over a few years. I think that if the posts were reversed (the end that was in the ground is up)they would be okay to use. I do not remember how we planted the posts. Others may have differing opinions. These posts were set with an auger both times. I have a small block of trees that I may need to remove after this season. I hope to re-wind and re-use the wire, but am unsure if the poles will maintain enough integrity having already been pounded in -- and then go through being pulled out. Posts are expensive, but not nearly as expensive as the lesson of learning that "used" posts might give up on me when I get my first real crop on new trees... Thanks!
