It sounds like your machine does *not* have an internal hard disk or a
hard disk card. (The only way to make sure is to open the case up and look
for anything that would match!) So I'd suggest doing that first. If it
turns out you don't have one, you can boot from the floppy drives. Getting
software is not a problem, if you have an older Mac. The older Macs can
format a PRODOS 3.5" disk as 800k which will work on the IIGS. Getting
software is pretty easy, too.

And there you will find programs that can be saved onto those 3.5" 800k
floppies. :) Better yet, ask someone for the System 6.01 disks and you can
be up and running in a GUI environment much like that of the early Macs.

Best way is to check if you have a hd card and/or hd itself in the
computer first by opening it up.
