One option for RAM would be to buy a new SiriusRAM IIGS card from Alltech Electronics....it comes with a one year warranty. If you have a SCSI card you can still have DMA (Direct Memory Access...makes drive access go faster) turned on when you have more than 4MB of RAM installed on a SiriusRAM card.... I have a SiriusRAM card with 8MB on it in my IIGS and an Apple Hi Speed SCSI card with DMA on in my IIGS and it works nicely.... I wasn't able to do much with my IIGS until I had both a SCSI card and a RAM card. http://www.allelec.com/indexa2.html
Also, as far as floppies go, I'd suggest getting an Apple 3.5 SuperDisk drive controller card so you can use a 1.44MB Apple super disk drive on your IIGS since it's easier to find 1.44MB HD floppies in your local computer store than it is to find 800k DD/SD disks. I got mine from Shreve Systems earlier this year <http://www.shrevesystems. com>..it was listed in their mailed catalog as an "Apple II Multi-Controller Card". I got it from them for $59. I'm currently using an Applied Engineering HD+ floppy drive on it because I happened upon one in the as is section of a local used computer store. -- -MSC AIM: MSC1983MSC ICQ: 42442595 "Stand back!
