The Unidisk 3.5" has an in-the-case intelligent controller that communicates
with a Unidisk or //c (except the very first model) controller. The Apple
3.5" drive does not have that in-the-case controller. The drive mechanism
for both is the same, and in fact it's possible to bypass the in-the-case
controller on a Unidisk 3.5" to make it (almost) identical to an Apple 3.5"
drive. However, it's not possible to use an Apple 3.5" drive on a Unidisk
controller.

Hal is correct, you can not daisy chain 3.5" and 5.25" drives on a //e, you
can only do that on a //gs (and maybe on a //c+). You can have both types
of drives on a //e, but they must be on separate controllers. It's possible
that a third party made a controller that can handle both types, but not
that I remember.

Hi. The Apple 3.5 drive and the Unidisk 3.5 are completely different
drives. I'm not sure that an Apple 3.5 controller will work with a
Unidisk 3.5 in a //e. I thought you needed the Liron controller card to
work with the Unidisk drives. Am I wrong here?

I do know that you can't daisychain a 3.5 and a 5.25 (or a duodrive) on
the same controller on a //e. I believe that the IWM chip on the drive
card will only work with one kind of drive, either it's a 5.25
controller card or a 3.5.

Hope this helps.
