I have a bunch of old Global Village external Macintosh modems (14.4-33.6). Are these useable with the GS? I know that both vintage Macs and the GS use the same DIN-8 style modem ports, but I suppose that doesn't mean much. Before I waste time trying it out, I was just wondering if it is even possible to use these on a GS or if I need to find GS or Apple ][ -specific modems.

Some modems that came with Performa models get their power from an extra pin on the Performa's serial port(I have a 14.4 global village modem that is like this). Those ones won't work on the GS. However, most mac modems that are designed to get it's power from an AC adaptor instead should work.
