In the case of accessing a long file name on your HDD, it's
MSDOS 7
that is sending the short_name to Arachne instead of the
long_name.

Web servers send the long_name and Arachne receives them
just fine.

As you see, MSDOS 7 showed the short_names

I then "fired-up" Arachne in an MSDOS window from within
W95.
Attached is the directory listing of c:\progra~1\*.* which
MSDOS 7
sent to Arachne.

Also find attached, the directory listing sent to Arachne
by an
Apache web server.
As you can see, Apache sends the long_name. (and Arachne
can access
the links to those long_names)

I hope this information has been helpful.

OK. Now I understand what i need.
Just HTTPD for Windows for viewing local files.
Searching begins........
