My first experiments [with web page I knew was horridly graphics
intensive and a comparison d/l of 1.61 [no I haven't installed yet;
wanted to get cable up & running which meant finally getting all the
cabling, phone lines, power cords etc in the office/front room straight
clean & proper after more than a year] showed that what I have said all
along to others is true: It doesn't matter how fast the server is, or
how fast your system is. What matters is how much traffic the server is
dealing with at the time.

I notice, running DOS Lynx386 on about.com with 56 K modem, that I tend to get
about 1000 bytes/sec, sometimes less, sometimes a little more. 56 K modem is
capable of normally about 200000 bytes/min, sometimes more. So I wonder how
fast these about.com pages would download with cable or DSL, considering that
the about.com servers might be heavily burdened. I am afraid Arachne would take
too much time on the numerous pages, which all seem to carry excess baggage on
the top and bottom.

You're behind the times, L.D.! They separated peacefully into the
Czech Republic and Slovakia.
