All-
After what seemed like an age, I got arachne working. That was about 18
months ago. i don't use A. all the time, but when I do it's a breath of
fresh air - and unlike certain M$ products it has increased its'
performance with each upgrade I have done to my machine.
Still though, with a PII-400, 160Meg ram and vast acres of hard drive
space, I remember that it can do almost as well on old, *obsolete*
machines <g>.
I recently gave a 486-33 to a friend, recovered from a company disposal
scheme (though I sat on it for nearly a year!).
Got more HDD, RAM and chucked some shareware on it. I also slipped
Arachne on the machine, set up for local use.
Last week, my friend came over with a big grin, having 'discovered'
arachne on his machine. I would describe his reaction as some sort of
conversion' - opening his eyes to what can be done with even old
machines if you put your mind to it.
i think this experience might push him towards getting a modem for his
box, which also had IE4 for windows 3.11 on it. The increase in 'speed'
he experienced made him think the PC was up to surfing the internet.
So - Michael - please, continue to support your DOS versions of arachne
-there are users now, and in the future, who can benefit from your
teams' efforts to produce a stable, fast browser which rund on machines
which, at least in the - West - are considered junk.
Fair play, 3 cheers, nice one etc
Have a good un!
Neil
