Dear List:
A very interesting mail from a member on memory optimization.
The problem is still moot for the moment as I am still not on with
arachne yet. Arachne batch file very interesting.
What version of DOS? He sounds to me to be a user of Dos 6.0, but since
he has the setver.exe
line in his config.sys, perhaps he is patching in Dos 5.0's LOADHIGH
command. Can anyone help me here? I am using Dos 6.22 with a
compressed drive as well. I fortunately have no bus
mouse on this computer here to deal with, but a friend's computer uses a
bus mouse and Dos
6.20. What is the difference? Mine is a 16-bit system that uses
SMARTDRV command, but I use
it in the config.sys rather that the autoexec.bat file and load it low.
I depend mainly on a large
UMB block and no expanded memory {111 K!}. I wonder if he is using some
custom DOS or maybe wants to use the EM386 file differently because he
wants to use a fax driver or a CD-ROM.
Below are the list of my memory details:

system reviewed after higher DOS buffer settings, etc.
Maybe sending all this data a bit much! Nevertheless, as you
can see, I use the mem-
ory differently. I wonder if this may affect the performance of Arachne
for Dos later when I want
to disable the terminal and use a ppp.log instead. Thanks, much, for
helping us to be independent of Windows. The driver version for
himem.sys is due to win386.exe being loaded.
Yours Sincerely,
Thomas/ AKA as Tom, user of Arachne 1.61, I hope....
