I got into the +++ habit in the days of BBSing. Every modem string I
had started with it. I can remember when you could send the triple-plus
to someone and when they read it in ASCII text their modem would drop
carrier. <G> I even learned how to send it in "chat" without having my
modem disconnect me. <BG>
IIRC, on many modems ATZ sets modem back to 'factory default' settings.
If that is the case, and if someone has to use a special modem setup
because of dirty phone lines or whatever, sending ATZ would defeat all
the work they did figuring out the modem configuration in the first
place. So that seems like a good enough reason to me to send
triple-plus rather than ATZ.
