Weird (yes it should work), I'm not sure I understand in what OS you are
running Arachne under. Perhaps you can tell us. (Windows95 DOS box, Windows
95 in plain DOS or what?) Also if it's under Windows95 please type ver and
report what it says.
I was thinking that perhaps the DPMI services of Windows interfere in some
way - but I haven't heard that it should give any problems before. (If it
is a DOS box do you use Start|Run|command?)

I don't understand this at all... Perhaps you can explain.
BTW: Clarence you said when I released djpeg32 that I should try running
Arachne on a 386 ("since there's where she spends most of her time") - I
did so yesterday (386SX-16 8MB RAM, total ca 900MB HD (no optimizations
even attempted in DOS). And with image downloading turned off it wasn't
overly slow (university LAN connection - I hope they didn't mind me
plugging my own machine in <g>).
