After I had lost a telephone set and a faxmachine and after the editors
office lost a modem, a computer, the faxmachine and the swithboard...
I build a 'lightning detector' for early warning.
The detector is a special built long wave receiver ( 300kHz).
And when lightning is around I plug out all telephone equipement...
exept an 30 year old telephone (has no solid state components).

I also had a ferrite ring core coil in both incomming lines and a neon
bulb for protection and deletion of spikes... sometimes lightning comes
when you are not at home.
