download DV and DVX - so I did. It all looked quite promising, even to
the extent that it actually worked with Boardmaker, which steadfastly
refused to be switched away from with Quickswap. Unfortunately, the 145K
that DV (or was it X?) needed, seemed to prevent most of my programmes
from loading, and I nearly always got 'Out of memory' type errors.
Because the amount of information that came with the download was
sparse, I couldn't see whether it was possible to have DV load high to
free up the 640k. So near and yet so far....

Does your DV load high, Roger?

I have DesqView on my machine, but I rarely use it, so I don't have it
loaded. (You made me RTFM!) On page 241 of the manual for DV 2.6, it
states, "On a 386 computer, DESQview will load parts of itself high if it
finds room in the memory between 640K and 1024K. ... To force DESQview to
load low, type the following command line to start DESQview:

   DV/EXCLUDE=A000-FFFF/EXCLUDE=FFFE"

The manual states that this is to be used only if you have problems loading
DV without the parameters. Also, the command, DV/LIST will show what
addresses in high memory DV uses.

I don't like the <ALT> key as the hotkey as too many programs now use this
key to access menu items.

Hope this helps.

P.S. My monitors on my desktop machines are dying --- This one now has a
terrible pincushion and the monitor on my other machine has the text
compressed at the right and left sides of the screen and spread out in the
middle. BestBuy is having a sale of Samsung 75E and 75V (17-inch) monitors
(which the Samsung site indicates are discontinued). Does anyone have any
positive or negative comments about this model?
