It sounds like you had better luck than I...
I tried installing the TALK.SYS driver on this 486SX-40. Immediately
after boot-up, at the "C:\>" promt, I entered:
ECHO HI>$TALK$
There was a burst of static from the system speaker and then nothing.
Seemed rather like the system's input had been re-directed.
Tried setting the "-i" flag to toggle interrupts during speech, but it
had no effect.
PS.. I see that the "reply-to" bug is still alive ;-)
