Sorry, I have to disagree with you on this one. The 8.3
filename system is a pain. Longer filenames provide more
latitude for "clues".

What do you do in DOS that's worthwhile? Mail? Browsing?
Wordprocessing? Spreadsheet? Perhaps they would still
be worthwhile if you did them in Linux.

Well, it's only a small Linux, so don't expect the world.
However, it's pretty useful as a browser or as firewall,
and you can do simple wordprocessing with pico. Or, if
spreadsheeting is your game, there's one on the BasicLinux
site which you can download and run.
