I use PC DOS 3.3 on my Arachne XT box. I repartitioned the 40 meg
Seagate on it when I "upgraded" it and you are right about the
memory situation. I also recently installed Quarterdeck's QRAM EMS
memory manager program (thanks L.D.) and I am now able to load my
drivers, TSRs and disk cache in the hiram it creates with part of the
1 meg of EMS I have on the machine. I think I have 598k of free RAM
at the dos prompt. I also recently upgraded from Arachne 1.48b to
1.66 on this machine with the maximum memory core.exe that Michael
compiled and it runs very well on this Swan (DTK) XT10 10mhz XT
w/640k RAM, NEC v20/8087, 1 meg AST Sixpack Premium EMS card, and an
old AST 14.4k modem. With the max memory core.exe I have 150k free
offline and I can't remember how much when connected. I downloaded
several of the APMs without any problem and have had only on xSwap
error.

It is still slow (naturally) but it runs better than 1.48b did (this
was the last release with a separate small core.exe. I am currently
minimizing/optimizing many of the .htm and .ah pages for quicker
display with the old Oak VGA card I am using. The internal editor is
not useable (agonizingly slow) and I installed the external editor
APM, but though successfully installed, I am still getting the
internal editor. I installed Pegasus Mail for DOS and while slow is
still many times faster for email than Insight. Any idea how to make
the external editor functional?
