Is that "no floppy drive"? If so, that shuts

Yes, indeed, you can do all sorts of useful CLI stuff
on that machine (once Linux is installed). The hard
part is getting Linux installed. The usual method of
installing on a 4meg system uses a floppy, so you are
going to have to try something different.
Your easiest option may be to download a UMSDOS version
of Linux (that boots and runs from a DOS directory). I
am _not_ talking about a Linux that boots from DOS and
runs in a ramdisk (like BasicLinux), but one that uses
DOS for its filesystem. Have a look at MonkeyLinux,
DragonLinux, DOSLinux, SmallLinux, LoopLinux, etc.
Do any of them say they will run in 4meg RAM?
