Dear List:
The great thing about XPDF is not how well it works, but that it works
at all! I love being able to check what a .pdf download is before
bothering to copy it to a win 9x machine. It is great being able to
browse a CD that expects a win 9x installation........
XPDF is sometimes very slow, and sometimes wont work. I wonder why the
amount of processing is needed to find text? Also, why does nothing ever
reliably linewrap for me in Arachne!!!
For more serious extraction I use Ghostscript. I have a win 3.1 version,
but it is supposed to work under DOS - I just cant work out how.
Ghostscript will create all sorts of files for the export, and can pull
out pictures as well as text.

The adobe .pdf viewer also has a 16 bit form that works fine and can be
screen grabbed as an infratech approach.
