Yes, it was the file name, I now have tried out xpdf091.apm and 
with my files it makes no difference (Czech diacritics still is 
not 100% proceeded). Anyway, I replaced the program, while wondering a 
bit why xpdf090.exe was 964 kb and xpdf091.exe only 142 kb...
