There's away to work around this for now. Use the "secret" AltaVista
text-mode.
Instead of going to http://www.altavista.com , go to:
http://www.altavista.com/cgi-bin/query?text
You will be represented with a "simplified" version of altavista
with less pictures and all. (They started to push advertisment there,
though, after they found out that many used to use that mode to escape
the ads..)
Unfortunatly, if you want to use the "extended" services like Altavista
mail and "media search", you'll have to use the normal version.. when
you use it, try to browse with images turned off. May help.
In the worse case, just change to Google. ;)
