>>> Sorry. Operation under Windows (tm) is not supported.

>(Sorry Clarence, You're wrong this time: Even I myself have supported
Arachne installations under various windows, and I've even been installing
OS/2 warp 3, just to see...) And then again, You might have used the
opportunity to sell me a registration key of which I previously asked this
list what it does in case of new arachne versions and no-one reacts. "win
3.x winsock.dll cannot be used" though...

But now for serious, If I open a dos box, enter "miniterm" and thereafter
"epppd", The message is "installed package driver at 0x60" and the
connection is good enough for telnet, or arachne if bootp is activated.
"Termin 0x60" closes the connection and all returns to windows normally.
Arachne.bat, started from an icon on the win95 desktop however, just like
arachne.bat, started from dosprmpt.pif, hangs the system through termin as
before.
My modem let's me down out of windows, so I have a second, external 14400
installed especially for arachne. Of course in real real mode, there's no
such thing as trouble...
My videocard now renders 800x600x256 with the vesa driver that Jake sent me
yesterday, but only in pure dos. And since I had two install, anyway, I now
use 1.69 from dos, and 1.70 from win95.
My mother counts herself lucky for not being interested in "alternative"
ways to connect to the net, and so the problem is marginal.

Sam: Are you sure that your win95 "configuration screen -> system -> device
manager -> modems" (may not be too accurate translation from win95 dutch
version...) dialog box doesn't offer any optional dos support? (I found
mine only after I realised that's not the same box as "config screen ->
modems"
