Very interesting test, Glenn. Very interesting results too. I notice that
the smtp log file indicates that my smtp server has this new ESMTP thing.
In spite of this ESMTP stuff, all of my DOS email clients are still working
just fine and without any requirement that I authenticate myself to my smtp
server. I have been told that ESMTP requires some kind of authentication.
Relaying was denied probably because shentel.net has some way of knowing
that you were not logged in to their system at the time you attempted to
send the messages. Please let me find out if it is possible for you to
send me an email through shentel.net by using Telnet.

BTW, I have recently received a SPAM message apparently from someone
promoting some business in Argentina. The bulk advertising message was
an HTML attachment in the Spanish language. I reported it to spamcop and
spamcop analyzed it and said that this spam originated from
smtp.shentel.net. Was this possibly an error on spamcop's part? If even
you can't send me an email message through smtp.shentel.net, then how can
some spammer located in Argentina do it? BTW, I don't know why these
Argentinian spammers have targeted me. I'm certainly not going to place
a mail order to Argentina to buy any products that I can easily acquire
locally in Virginia. And that includes spiced ham. BTW, I feasted on
spiced ham on Friday in a traditional celebration of ground hog day,
Feb. 2nd.
