I've tried that also.
I'm sorry to say that most-times this is all that happens:

So, I try starting at ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/
(no problem getting /pub/)
http://www.angelfire.com/id/glenndoom/cdrom-dot-com-pub.jpg
And then browse to the simtelnet directory:
(big problem getting /.2/simtelnet/) :((

As you can see, it still won't work. :(
