Todd,
I may be getting in over my head here, but I'll proceed with caution ...
With your setup it would appear that the DOS box would have a fixed IP.
However, I'm not clear as to how the win machine passes signals from the
DOS box to the cable modem.
On a normal cable modem hookup for Arachne [like I have], I had the
option of using BOOTP or, since I have fixed IP, "hardwiring" all the
data into Arachne.cfg.
But since I haven't set up a local network yet [I'm finding other things
to keep me too busy] so the kid can use the cable modem simultaneiously,
I can't relay personal experience there.
However, from what I've read I will end up with a Proxy on my main
machine [whatever that does] which will do the 'signal sorting' so that
his machine & my machine talk to the ISP seperately. From what I've
gathered, the Proxy would maintain & use the fixed IP data between cable
modem & ISP, while recognizing via 'local' IPs that two different
machines are being used.
Now I may be totally wrong ... <G>
Now comes the question: How do you have arachne.cfg set up for network?
Do you have it using a proxy in the main box? Are you using BOOTP
setup? Are you using fixed IP?
>From the last line in your message, it appears as if you are using BOOTP
on Arachne. I don't think that *can* work when you're using a local
network to access the cable modem, unless your local network has DNS
capability to tell Arachne IP and all the other stuff it needs to work.
