I live in Los Angeles and work for LA County. Most of downtown closed down today; by
afternoon it was strangely silent in the metropolitan area, as if we were playing out
the
script for one of those Bruce Willis disaster movies. Most people are simply stunned,
glued to the endless loop of the same video clips and talking heads, leaving work to
be at home and surrounded with loved ones. Local government is in an emergency
standby mode, waiting to see if anything else is going to happen.

LAX and all air traffic in the US is shut down tight, security is way up. One hopes
that this
will not denigrate into some kind of xenophobic horror flick.
