Good question and a very relevant one too. Another list member
asked me the same question in writing to me privately. I am
forwarding to the list a copy of the answer I am sending to him.

Thanks for your interest in my recent post on the Arachne List.
I use a special cable that is provided as an included accessory
with the cell phone. At one end of the special cable there is a
proprietary connector that attaches to a special port located at
the bottom of the base of the cell phone. At the other end there
is a standard female nine pin serial port connector which I connect
to the serial port on the Toshiba laptop. To dial I just enter
Arachne and simply press ALT + D. Alternatively, I could just go
to the "ppp_init.htm" dial page and click on the DIAL button, the
same way you would do if you were connected to an ordinary
land-line phone.
All the best,
Sam
