IMHO, the manufacturer should have put a note on the packaging and
also in the owner's manual saying something to the effect that
"This device has been tested and found to be compatible with
communications applications running under any of the following
operating systems: blah, blah, blah, etc., when configured for
operation as though it were any standard external modem."
Including such a notice could have resulted in many more sales.
There are probably a lot of computer peripherals on the market
that will work with DOS that I would buy if only the manufacturer
had enough sense to make the claim on his product packaging. If a
manufacturer's products aren't crippled like those of his
competitors, then the manufacturer should proudly boast about it.
