Mel: in 1973/74 I went to work to Hewlewt Packard (South Queensferry,
Scotland) as an electronic engineer, already being a radio
amateur (LU1FCR).

There, in my free time a built a direct conversion receiver for 14 MHz (20
meter band) for CW and SSB. I am still using it. It is smaller than a
3.5" drive, has a 0.5 uV sensitivity and it's audio is much better
than my Yaesu FT-757GX.

That very simple working ham receiver is like Arachne in a world of bloated
internet programs.

The command-line interface is a vestige of an era of macho computing.
