Hi Sam,

thanks for your hints, I've now re-set up Arachne on Ramdisk, but the
problem remained: Arachne still failed with user/password verification,
while dial-in succeeded when launching Arachne from hard disk.

Using a different ISP solved the problem - the connection is
established, no matter from where Arachne is launched.

BTW, I didn't forget to leave certain stuff on the hard disk; mail,
download etc are in a directory outside \arachne.
