Hi Sam,
gues how surprised I was ... I didn't really expect it to work with a
different ISP, this was just a shot in the dark.
All I did was enter the different phone no. and user/password
combination (using the arachne ppp setup: I didn't even manually
touch arachne.cfg or other cfg files), and it worked - with both my
previous installation and the current one.
The only explanation i can think of is that the previously used
ISP is MSN ... that might explain any microsoftish quirkyness :-)
Although, I can't imagine how they should be able to find out whether
I'm launching Arachne from C: or G:
Launching Arachne from G: and using MSN, while passing login
information to the RAS server, the modem repeatedly indicates SD
followed by RD. After several unsuccessful attempts to authenticate,
arachne hangs up.
Memory is not an issue:
offline online
DOS (KB) 117[+] 83[?]
Used XMS (KB) 3905 4573
Free xSwap (KB) 1902 1765
Used xSwap (KB) 159 298
Disk Space (MB) 10 9
The ramdrive is 16 mb, i suppose this should be enough ...
under dos, there's physically 64 mb available (didn't feel the need
to install a driver to enable dos to use all 384 mb *g*).
Trying to connect to MSN with my current installation, it's just
the same - works from c: but not from g:, and any other ISP works
fine with either hard disk or ramdrive.
But nevermind - with Arachne, I don't necessarily have to dial in
with MSN (I suppose you consider this a heresy anyway *g*). I'll be
happy as long as there are other call-by-call ISPs I can use.
Greetings,
Thomas
