after writing telnet address[port] and so on -
at the command line type:

    user [your username] [enter]

you may get the prompt: password:

   if not, type:

password [your password] [enter]

you may also get a message like: Welcome [user] and then be asked
for your password.

You may need to experiment a bit.

I guess different telnet access to different hosts will give
different dialogues. And different telnet clients may give diffferent
responses.

e.g. I have also found that at least one of my ISPs has
a time limit on telnet log-in to my mailbox, and I have never been quick
enough to get in.

Regards,
         Ron
