Matthias,

I'm not going to comment on all your issues. But as an outsider to this
situation, I'd like to just comment on one thing here that I think you're
overlooking, and which may be unnecessarily causing you frustration here.

I think that a good bit of the lack of response you got is not because of
uncooperative people, but because the developers are overworked people who
don't have as much time to dedicate to the distro as they (and you) would
like.

Take a look at the recent interview with the Arch developers over at OSNews:
http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=10142. The one thing the screams out
to me from that interview is that nearly every dev cites their lack of
adequate free time for the distro as the major challenge they face
(http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=10142&page=2). These guys are all
volunteers who do this in their spare time, while juggling school and/or a
job. This isn't like other projects - e.g., RedHat, SuSe, Debian, the Kernel,
GNOME, KDE - where people are paid to work on it.

So I think you need to give them a bit of a break. I'm sure it takes a
tremendous amount of time just to keep up with building packages for all the
latest releases of all the s/w, and so taking on other projects on top of that
is very difficult.

The devs are really very dedicated, selfless people for donating as much of
their time as they to do the distro, and I think we're all grateful to them
for that - and impressed at what they've been able to achieve in their spare
time. I think that if you approach Arch with that knowledge, and adjust your
expectations accordingly, you'll not be as frustrated with the developers.

Just my $0.02.

HTH,

DR
