Hi Joe, I had exactly the same problem with my Canon EOS 300D, but I
downgraded to a lower version of gphoto2: libgphoto2-2.1.6-6 , you can
install it from your cache, using  pacman -U
/var/cache/pacman/pkg/libgphoto2-2.1.6-6.pkg.tar.gz and rebooting.  If
you dont have it, I put it on my LUG server
http://linux.mty.itesm.mx/~oestrada/other/tmp/libgphoto2-2.1.6-6.pkg.tar.gz
With the current gphoto2,digikam wasn't able to detect my camera,
after downgrading I was able to transfer the photos without errors. I
hope this will work for you as a temporary solution.
