Agreed. What I do is have not only kernel26 installed but also kernel26beyond and I upgrade always only one of those two at a time so that if the new kernel wouldn't work I could still use the other one to boot. But it's far from optimal solution, besides kernel26beyond hasn't been updated for a while...
