IHi Owen,
I haven't yet formulated a proposal. I have formulated a goal which is to state
objective public qualifications as a threshold for nomination with the removal
of the NomCom's ability to restrict those who meet the threshold.
As a guide I suggest we refer to the RIPE model which does allow
self-nomination with the support of five members.
I agree that there was no requirement to receive this letter which makes it all
the more mysterious that it was generated and sent in his current form.
Regards,
Mike

will disagree. The proposal is to require an explanation. The letter you got
was not an explanation, it was a clear exercise of the nominating committees
option not to explain themselves if they choose not to.If they were required to
provide an explanation to candidates, I do not believe this letter would meet
that requirement. If you have any ideas on wording to create a more
effectiverequirement that clarifies that fact, I would love to know what you
might propose.OwenOn Nov 4, 2021, at 10:44 AM, Mike Burns <m...@iptrading.com>

letter in the beginning. When it arrived it just confirmed my suspicions and I
posted it to allow others to understand that merely requiring this letter will
do nothing to fix the situation. It's only because I want Arin to continue doing
a good job that I am pressing this issue.Regards,Mike ---- On Thu, 04 Nov 2021

NomCom's prerogative not to provide an explanation. But this non-explanation
makes a mockery of the entire concept of an explanation. It literally says
nothing about why the candidate was not selected. It simply restates the
NomCom's charter and their decision. If this is the kind of obfuscatory behavior
we're going to get out of requiring explanations under the current process,
then that process needs to be changed more radically than I thought.-ScottOn

received the explanation for my exclusion from this year's AC slate. For those
who believe this explanation provides any transparency, I post it in its
totality below to disabuse them of that notion.Required explanations don't move
the needle at all in attempting to improve the nominations process. Perhaps all
it would take would be a simple change to the charging language to instruct the
nomcom not to exclude candidates who are qualified and include those minimum
qualifications?Regards,MikeDear Mr. Burns,The ARIN Nomination Committee
(NomCom) is in receipt of your request for an explanatory statement on the
reasons why you were not included on the Advisory Council candidate slate for
the 2021 ARIN Elections. The ARIN NomCom reviewed all duly submitted and timely
nominations and the materials provided by the nominees. The NomCom’s robust
deliberation process was informed by the diversity of perspectives and
experience among NomCom Members and strong adherence to the mandate and terms
of reference. Various factors were considered including, but not limited to,
experience, involvement in the ARIN community, and responses to the nominee
questionnaires. After careful and thoughtful review of each nominee, it was
decided to not put your Advisory Council nomination forward onto the initial
slate of candidates this year. Catherine MiddletonChair, ARIN Nomination
