Well, there isn't really a standard for how loud tracks should be. So
level differences are inevitable. I haven't heard songs from blue (at
least not the CD master) yet but I thought I did find find traces of
extreme compression in the sample tracks posted yesterday (which I
understand is hardly anything to go by).

And even if it was true, I'm not saying it is bad. It might be what
the genre demands. It is also worth noting that mastering was not done
in-house (although I'm not sure if that is usual. The really old CDs I
have, credit Sridhar/Shivakumar for mixing and mastering at Panchathan
Record Inn - point being mastering was done in-house).

I'd be really surprised though if this is related to dolby processing.
