** This is exactly how I have been spending my nights into the every morning, preparing to move from HPD/AST 4 to ITSM 6. I just migrated about 150k records from SHR:Consolidated list into my new db (I am archiving HPD requests before 1/1/05 and we didn't use Change Tasking and some custom apps until after that). I exported by FY quarter so it worked about to be 20-40k per batch. I could have probably gone with a bit larger chunks but it worked out nicely to make multiple small export/import runs instead fewer larger runs. It didn't tie up the PC for hours on end trying to export and import in case I need to jump in and do something else (exporting can really give a machine a workout.

I also turned off the most filters (I left RSM:SHR:GetGUID_Call GUIDE, RSM:SHR:GetGUID_Filter_1 and RSM:SHR:GetGUID_Filter_2`! on) and disable escalations when I am doing the import to lessen working being done and avoid any error messages.

One additional note. I forgot to turn off filters when when I ran a temp escalation to set the zParentChangeInstanceID on CHG:Task. I noticed a huge difference after I turned the CHG:Task filters off. Granted at that point I was triggering Modify filters and not just the handful of Merge ones since the data was already imported. You may find this helpful if you are migrating Tasking (or anything you need to do a mass update on).

Correct.  I would start with about 50K records and adjust up and down. Also, I would disable any workflow that fires on merge until the cutover is completed.

Jim,

By "chunk out", you mean export large tables in separate "batches" - xx records at a time, then import each .ARX individually, right?

Shawn:

Chunk out the data for the large forms.  This should eliminate the timeout error.

Subject: Upgrading Remedy - 4.5 to 6

Greetings List!

We are currently working on upgrading our Remedy from 4.5 to 6 (woo hoo!) and have new servers, databases, etc. that we will be using.

In the past when we've migrated/moved our Remedy, we have moved the data by exporting it through the User Client (our largest form was only 45k entries, followed by a 25k entry form). Today however, we have at least a dozen forms with 60k+ (several with 200k+) and are encountering timeouts and other performance issues when trying to export the data to be moved.

The last time we tried moving the data from one DB to the new DB, it all but blew up.

We are wondering if anyone else has had to move (what we consider) large amounts of data and knows of a more efficient way to do this.

Thank you VERY much in advance for your assistance!
