** The Core2Duo's have hardware assisted virtualization.  My desktop is a core2 2.4ghz with 2gb memory and running oracle, remedy, tomcat, email engine, fb, admin tool, user tool, and eclipse does not phase the speed.  More memory would be a good thing though, and the core2 has E64T which lets it address 4gb of memory.  I've been toying with MS Virtual PC 2007, which seems to work fairly stable.  The only thing it doesn't do is multiple core/cpu emulation.  I have not tried vmware on this setup.

From BMC's own recommendations -
1.8GHz, single processor, 2GB RAM 2GHz, single processor, 2GB RAM

I'm getting reasonable speed with the is recommendation. Of course, more is better, so get the most you can afford above this. For one, look for systems that can be upgraded beyone 2GB. BMC has hit the limit on my current system, any more and I have to upgrade the whole laptop.

The other thing to do is optomize your VM, remove any thing you don't need like other applications that would be consuming memory in the VM environment.

Subject: OT:Spec for a demo laptop

Hello everyone, i hope you are all well.

I am buying a new laptop to use as a Remedy demo system. I would like to
run Linux, Oracle, AR, and all ITSM 7 modules on it without it running
slowly. I will probably be running VMWare on it as well.

Can anyone recommend a good laptop that can handle all of this? Has anyone
had had a good experience with a particular model?

Many Thanks,

Michael.
