Madhu: 

One of the reasons you may consider Service Actions is that these
actions do not run with "User" permissions on the server. That means
that you can retrieve/access information from the server that you may
not have access to via your permissions (active links) when running on
the client platform. There are a bunch of other reasons as well, but
this is usually the main reason.
